Volunteer Wildlife Driver (Highlands & Islands)

We need help to carefully transport domestic and small wild animals (contained) between our rescue centres, to our National Wildlife Centre and to vet appointments.

Why we want you

  • We need help to carefully transport wildlife casualties from across the Highlands & Islands to our wildlife station in Inverness and our National Wildlife Rescue Centre in Fishcross, near Alloa or to our Wildlife Rescue partner in Brora, Sutherland
  • This is a minimum six hour round trip (less if meeting our Senior Rescue Officer at a meet-up point), so you should be fit for driving longer distances and enjoy driving, as well as having a passion for wildlife.
  • To carry out this role you will require a full UK Driving Licence and will be asked to provide a DVLA Check Code to us as part of the application process.
  • You will be provided with a Scottish SPCA van to drive and all fuel costs will be paid by the Society. Full training will be given and necessary PPE and equipment provided, and you will have a named supervisor who will support you in your volunteering role.

What you will be doing

  • Uplift wildlife casualties from the wildlife station in Inverness and transport them to our National Wildlife Rescuer Centre in Fishcross, near Alloa. This will include birds up to the size of a gull; securely confined birds of prey up to the size of a buzzard; rabbits, hedgehogs and other small mammals
  • Transfer animals lawfully, safely and securely from point of collection to
    the designated facility
  • Undertake general admin tasks with the utmost care, as required
  • Correctly use and maintain your allocated Society van and all associated equipment

  • Self-motivated and reliable
  • You require to have a modern smart phone as you will be using Telegram App for communication
