Why donate food and essentials
The animals in our care are always delighted to receive food and essentials from our supporters – and so are our Centre teams! We really do appreciate every single item that is kindly bought for the animals and we love receiving deliveries. Before you donate, please check the lists below so that you know what we can and cannot accept.
Where you can donate food and essentials to animals in need
Donate at a Scottish SPCA Centre
We have six Centres across Scotland where you are welcome to drop off food and essentials for animals awaiting their forever home. There is a donation box located outside our Centres where you can leave your donated food and essentials.
Please clock on the lists below to make sure animals in our care can benefit from your generous donations.
- Towels and blankets (if used, please ensure they are clean and have been laundered)
- Hand knitted items
- Used newspapers (must be bagged)
- Toys in good condition
- Plastic dog beds in good condition
- Pet food (unopened and in date)
- Vegetables and fruit (spring greens, kale, broccoli, cucumber, spinach, celery, carrots, apples, grapes, any berries)
- Dog crates and cages
- Duvets and pillows
- Textile dog beds
- Fish tanks
- Pet food that has been opened
- Poor quality or broken toys
- Dog biscuit mixers
- Dog food with coloured biscuits
- Rawhide treats
Donate at Our National Wildlife Centre
Find the National Wildlife Centre
Our National Wildlife Centre is located in Fishcross, Clackmannanshire. We accept food and essentials here and they can be left in the donation box outside the Centre. Please review the lists below to find out what you can and cannot donate. Thank you.
- All sizes of blankets / fleece
- Newspapers
- Animal toys in good condition
- Plastic dog beds in good condition
- Pet food (unopened and in date)
- Vegetables and fruit (spring greens, kale, broccoli, sweetcorn, lettuce, spinach, carrots, apples, berries) – only during spring and summer
- Pillow cases, bed sheets, duvet covers, hand towels, bath towels
- Fish tanks with lid in good condition and good size (has to be clean)
- Finely knitted nests
- Clean, used jar lids
- Good condition plant pots and trays
- Unopened bird seed, suet, etc
- Poltec cages, plastic brooders
- Wood chip & compost (unused)
- Plants, trees, gardening equipment
- Small plastic pet carriers
- Play pens, animal hides
- Unopened hay
- Duvets and pillows
- Blankets that have been knitted
- Dog crates / cages
- Opened / out of date pet food
- Any treats, coats, leads
- Small bird cages
- Shredded newspaper
- Small animal bedding such as sawdust, hamster bedding
- Any types of medications
