Animal Kindness Index
We place animal welfare at the heart of Scotland’s future.
Every year we publish a UK-wide investigation into public attitudes toward animals called the Animal Kindness Index. We do this in partnership with the RSPCA, Scottish SPCA, and Ulster SPCA.
The 2025 Animal Kindness Index reveals a powerful shift in public opinion in Scotland:
Animal welfare is now ranked as the third most important issue for people in Scotland — ahead of mental health, human rights, and religion.
of Scots say it is a top priority, nearly doubling from 32% in 2024
of people now identify as animal lovers — a significant rise from 68% last year
are worried about the future of wildlife in Scotland
These figures send a clear message: the public cares deeply about animal welfare and expects action.
As we see increasing levels of animal abuse online and growing public concern for pets, farm animals and wildlife, the call to embed animal welfare in our laws, education system, and communities is louder than ever. With 91% of people across the UK recognising the value of animal welfare education, the case for action is overwhelming.
