
Animal Reader
Do you love animals and have a passion for reading? We are seeking compassionate volunteers to read aloud to the animals in our care.
Why we need you
Reading provides enrichment, reduces stress and helps animals in our care become more comfortable around people. You will be providing valuable human interaction and helping them on their journey to find their forever home.

What you will be doing
- Choose a story from our animal library
- Read aloud to animals in a calm and soothing voice
- Observe animal body language and adjust reading sessions accordingly
- Report any concerns regarding animal behaviour to staff member
- Keep a simple record of reading session (date, time, animal, book read)
The skills you need
- A strong interest in animal welfare
- Basic reading skills and a clear and expressive voice
- Patience, empathy and a calm demeanour
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Basic understanding of animal body language (training provided)
- Ability to listen to instructions and follow procedures
