Information for Executors and Solicitors

If you are the administrator or executor of an estate that includes a gift to the Scottish SPCA, please read the following information.

Restricted Gifts

The Scottish SPCA can accept restricted gifts; however, unrestricted gifts are preferred wherever possible to allow flexibility and long-term sustainability.

Where a supporter wishes to impose a restriction, we recommend using the following wording:

“I wish for XXX gift to be left to the Scottish SPCA (Scottish Charity No. SC00646) to be used to support the running xxx. However, if the Scottish SPCA no longer provides this service, I would like the Scottish SPCA to use this gift for a similar purpose.”

Notification of Gifts

There is no obligation to notify the charity during Will preparation. However, The Scottish SPCA welcomes early contact where helpful and appreciates notification once an estate enters administration.

Notifying the Scottish SPCA of a Gift

We are grateful to those who have chosen to support Scottish SPCA through a gift in their Will.

This area is designed to support solicitors and executors by providing the information needed to administer a charitable legacy clearly and efficiently.

Please contact us via email: legacy.scottishspca.org to notify us of the gift.

If the gift is a pecuniary gift please provide:

• The name and date of death of the supporter
• The Will Clause for the gift so we may ensure we are honouring any wishes

If the gift is a residuary gift please provide:

• A copy of the Will
• A copy of the confirmation once received
• A copy of the accounts for the administration of the estate once approved by the executors
• The estimated timescale involved for the administration and regular progress reports to keep us up to date.

Payment by Bank Transfer

If you would like to make a legacy donation by bank transfer, please contact us by e-mail at legacy@scottishspca.org and let us know the following:

• Full name and last known address of the deceased so that we can update our Supporter records
• The executor’s name and contact details.

We will then provide you with our bank details and the reference to be used so we can track your payment.

Payment by Cheque

If you would like to make payment by cheque, please make the cheque payable to ‘Scottish SPCA’ and send it together with the following information:

• Full name and last known address of the deceased so that we can update our Supporter records
• The executor’s name and contact details
