Scottish SPCA’s Aberdeenshire centre put on festive feast for animals

Staff at the Scottish SPCA’s Aberdeenshire rescue centre cooked up a festive feast for each dog, cat, small animal and horse in their care.

The Scottish SPCA’s Aberdeenshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre in Drumoak has been busy this festive period after serving up a special meal to each of its furry residents on Christmas Day.

Staff at the centre got to work making sure no animal was left out this Christmas, cooking turkey and vegetables for the dogs, turkey and salmon for the cats, a selection of herbs and vegetables for their smaller animals and some flapjacks for the horses.

The spread went down a treat and is the second year that the staff have done this for the animals in their care.

As well as cooking up a festive feast, the staff also made sure to pop some toy and treat donations aside in the lead up to Christmas. These were then wrapped and the animals were able to pick out a present.

Naomi Clancy, Manager at the Aberdeenshire centre, said: “We cooked the animals a Christmas meal last year and it was a big hit so we were keen to do it again to give our animals an extra treat around Christmas time.

“A lot of our long-term animals haven’t had Christmas in a home for a while so we thought this would be something nice to do for them – as well as the staff!”

One long-term resident at the Aberdeenshire centre is Buddy, an American Bulldog who is eagerly awaiting his second chance at a forever home. Having spent some time in a kennel environment, he is dreaming of a quiet and stable home where he can relax and transition into domestic life at his own pace.
