Scottish SPCA appeals for information after two cats found dead in Motherwell and Wishaw

The Scottish SPCA is appealing to the public for information following the discovery of two deceased cats found dumped in separate locations, the first in Motherwell and the second in Wishaw.

Members of the public discovered the cats on Wednesday 23rd July. The first cat was abandoned at the edge of woodland off Shields Road in the Muirhouse area of Motherwell, behind the derelict Bullfrog pub. The second cat was found behind red bushes next to a tarmac path and residential homes in Carbarns East, Wishaw.

Scottish SPCA Inspector, Jack Marshall, said: “The first cat, a male grey domestic short-haired, was found in a grey plastic cat carrier with no door, The cat was not neutered and had suffered a severe maggot infestation, indicating he had likely died only a few days prior to being found.”

“The second cat, a grey and white domestic short-haired, was discovered in a blue breadbasket alongside household waste, including welding gauntlets and a high-visibility vest. The presence of pupated maggots suggests the cat had been there for several days longer.”

“If anyone recognises these cats or has any information surrounding their circumstances, they should call our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
