We will be holding a summer open day at our Dunbartonshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic.

Taking place on Sunday 30 July from 12pm until 3pm, the open day will give members of the public the chance to meet the team at the centre, shop local businesses, play fun games and win raffle prizes.

The event is also dog-friendly, with visitors encouraged to bring their canine companions along to join in the fun.

Assistant manager of the centre, Ally Bibby, said, “We’re so excited to welcome the public to our open day.

“The event is ideal for anyone who would like to know more about the work we do in the local community or meet the team here at the centre. We will also have a bouncy castle and an ice cream van!

“By taking part in our raffle and fundraising activities on the day you’ll also be helping to fund the work of the centre so we can keep rescuing Dunbartonshire’s animals like Princess Hattie the tortoise.

“Princess Hattie came to the centre from a home where she could no longer be properly cared for. She was underweight and very nervous.

“Luckily Jen and her family got in touch after waiting years to find the right tortoise to bring home. Knowing that these rare reptiles can be abandoned due to their long lives, they were keen to give a tortoise in need a fresh start. When they saw that Princess Hattie needed a new home on our website, they knew they had to rescue her.

“Princess Hattie has been with her new family for around seven months now and has settled in brilliantly. She loves the warmer weather and enjoys exploring the garden in the sunshine.

“Jen’s husband Mark and daughter Ailsa have also worked hard to build Hattie a new enclosure fit for a princess, and the family are always on the lookout for great weeds, greens and stones to bring home as gifts for their little royal.

“The open day is a fantastic chance to celebrate success stories like Princess Hattie, have some fun and raise some much-needed funds for Dunbartonshire’s animals. We hope to see as many animal-lovers there as possible!”

Anyone interested in attending the open day should head along to the Scottish SPCA Dunbartonshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre, Dumbarton Road, Milton, G82 2UA on 30 July between 12pm and 3pm.
