We have issued an appeal after two Guinea pigs were found abandoned in a cage outside high-rise flats at Birness Drive in Glasgow.

Scotland’s animal welfare charity was alerted to the incident after a member of the public called their animal helpline after finding the Guinea pigs on 17 December.

Scottish SPCA acting chief inspector, Lara Vickery, said: “The caller found two Guinea pigs outside a high-rise in a cage.

“They were unsure who the animals belonged to and weren’t aware of anyone in the neighbourhood who keeps Guinea pigs.

“Luckily the animals were unharmed but this could easily have been a different story.

“The Guinea pigs are now in the care of one of our Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centres where they are receiving the care and attention they need.

“If anyone recognises these animals, please contact our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
