We are looking for homes for three ferrets in the care of our Aberdeenshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre who have sadly been overlooked.

Oscar, Mr Jenkins and Joanna the ferrets have been in the care of the centre for a combined total of over 500 days.

Centre manager Jacqueline McEwen said, “Sadly, ferrets are often overlooked for rehoming and tend to stay in our care for a long time. It’s a shame as they can make fantastic pets in the right homes.

“Oscar has been at the centre the longest, at just over 300 days in our care. He is looking for a home without other ferrets and would love an active family that can provide him with the exercise he needs.

“Mr Jenkins has been here for over 120 days and would be suitable for a first-time ferret owner as long as they have done their research. He could also go to a home with existing ferrets as long as introductions are done slowly and properly.

“Joanna has been with us for over 90 days and is only around eight to 10 months old. She is very well behaved with the team and loves to have a little play with anyone she can before falling back asleep.

“Unfortunately, she has not done too well when introduced to other ferrets and would prefer to be the only ferret in the home. She will need a home that has the time and experience to bond with her.

“Although they are great for adult homes, or homes with older teenagers, ferrets are not really suitable as children’s pets as they can nip when excited.

“They also need a lot of enrichment and exercise as they’re highly social, intelligent creatures who love interacting with their owners. They shouldn’t just be left in a cage and forgotten about.

“However, if you’re willing to put the time and effort in to caring for them they can be incredibly rewarding animals to own. They’re very inquisitive and cheeky and will definitely bring a lot of fun in to their new owners’ lives!

“We’d love to find new homes for Oscar, Mr Jenkins and Joanna as we know they’ll make fantastic pets for any ferret-enthusiast.”
