Why we need you

• We need help to carefully transport wildlife casualties from across the Highlands & Islands to our wildlife station in Inverness and our National Wildlife Rescue Centre in Fishcross, near Alloa or to our Wildlife Rescue partner in Brora, Sutherland. This is a minimum six hour round trip (less if meeting our Senior Rescue Officer at a meet-up point), so you should be fit for driving longer distances and enjoy driving, as well as having a passion for wildlife.

How much time do you need to be able to give?

Ad hoc to meet wildlife transport needs and as fits your own lifestyle.

What will you be doing?

• Uplift wildlife casualties from the wildlife station in Inverness and transport them to our National Wildlife Rescuer Centre in Fishcross, near Alloa. This will include birds up to the size of a gull; securely confined birds of prey up to the size of a buzzard; rabbits, hedgehogs and other small mammals
• Transfer animals lawfully, safely and securely from point of collection to the designated facility
• Undertake general admin tasks with the utmost care, as required
• Correctly use and maintain your allocated Society van and all associated equipment

• Practical experience of working with animals
• A strong interest in Scottish wildlife
• A commitment to animal welfare
• Sound driving skills
• Flexible approach to carrying out duties within specified shifts
• Self-motivated and reliable
• You require to have a modern smart phone as you will be using Telegram App for communication

To carry out this role you will require a full UK Driving Licence and will be asked to provide a DVLA Check Code to us as part of the application process. You will be provided with a Scottish SPCA van to drive and all fuel costs will be paid by the Society. 3-6 points on licence will be reviewed and discussed on an individual basis and a decision taken on suitability to volunteer in a driving role. Anyone with over 6 points on their licence will not be permitted to volunteer as a driver. Checks are renewed annually. Full training will be given and necessary PPE and equipment provided, and you will have a named supervisor who will support you in your volunteering role.
