Why we want you
We need you to help our dedicated Animal Care Assistants in providing a caring and safe environment for the small animals in our centre. This may include rabbits, rodents, ferrets, birds, reptiles, and any other small animals we are
caring for. We will do our best to accommodate your preferences for working or not working with certain species, but the role will depend on what animals we have in our care at any given time. You will be involved in ensuring that the animals’ accommodation is always clean and hygienic, and assist with basic feeding, grooming, exercising and enrichment activities for specific animals. Full training will be provided and you will always have the support of our staff in carrying out your duties.
What you will be doing
- Help us to maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in our small animals’ accommodation
- Assist with grooming, exercising and providing enrichment activities for the small animals in our care, as directed by our staff
- Undertake all associated manual data recording
- Assist with any other general cleaning and maintenance duties
The skills you need
- Compassionate, patient and caring, with a strong interest in animal welfare
- Previous experience with small animals would be preferable
- You must be a good listener and able to follow instructions well
- You should be flexible in your approach, as there will be times when contact with the animals is minimal
- Ability to bend and lift as required in caring for the animals
What’s in it for you
- Volunteering for us is an incredibly rewarding experience and in return for your time and commitment, you will gain invaluable experience helping Scotland’s leading animal welfare charity.
- You will be part of our dedicated team of Animal Champions, caring for Scotland’s animals in need.
Disclaimer
It will not always be possible for you to have hands-on experience with the animals in the course of your volunteering duties. Your contact with the animals will depend upon the animals in our care at any given time, their individual needs and with your own safety in mind.
