Food needed for hedgehogs at wildlife hospital

The Scottish SPCA is appealing to animal lovers to donate food for the hedgehogs currently in the care of their National Wildlife Rescue Centre, in Fishcross.

Our wildlife hospital is in desperate need of Brambles hedgehog food and Whiskas cat food for the hedgehogs in their care like Grey. All cat food donations must be non-fish based.

Food can be purchased from the centre’s Amazon wish list or via any other online retailer offering direct delivery to the centre.

Centre assistant manager, Maddie Milburn, said, “We are running extremely low on hedgehog food and wet cat food which we use to feed the hedgehogs at our centre.

“We are currently caring for around 60 hedgehogs so there are plenty of hungry mouths to feed.

“Hedgehogs come in to our care when they are sick or injured. Grey came to us at the beginning of October weighing just over 100g. He was riddled with ringworm which had affected his face and one side of his body causing lesions to his skin. This sadly made his spikes and hair fall out.

“After a few months of treatment he was successfully rehabilitated. He reached a healthy weight of 600g and was released just before Christmas.

“We need your help to get more of our hedgehogs strong and healthy enough to be released back in to the wild where they belong. We’d be so grateful for any donations that people can spare, and we know our hedgehogs will be too!”

Food items can be donated via the centre’s Amazon wish list here: https://amzn.to/3ln57KT or sent from another online retailer that can deliver. Items can also be handed in daily between 1pm and 4pm to the reception at the Scottish SPCA National Wildlife Rescue Centre, Fishcross, Clackmannanshire, FK10 3AN.
