two rabbits abandoned on A73

We are appealing for information after two rabbits were found abandoned on the verge of the A73 near Thankerton.

A truck driver spotted one black and one white giant continental rabbits loose at the side of the busy road on Thursday, 7 March.

Scottish SPCA Inspector Jennifer Surgeon, said: “A pair of rabbits were found by a truck driver running loose near the busy road. He pulled over and, with the help of another driver, they managed to secure the rabbits.

“A carrier was on the other side of the fence but had been left open so they had both managed to escape.

“Both rabbits had no obvious signs of injury and were in good condition. They are now in our care at one of our animal rescue and rehoming centres.

“This is not the correct way to give up a pet if you can no longer care for them. This was a dangerous situation for these rabbits and the outcome could have been very different.

“If anyone recognises these rabbits or has any information surrounding their circumstances, they should call our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
