Newspapers needed at Lanarkshire centre

The Scottish SPCA is appealing to animal lovers to donate old newspapers to its Lanarkshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre.

We use newspapers to line the enclosures of small and exotic animals in our care, like Warren the ferret.

Centre manager, Gillian Boyle, said, “We are running very low on our newspaper supply so we are hoping there are people nearby who can donate their old papers.

“Newspaper is a great material to use as a base for cages to catch the inevitable mishaps!

“We also use newspaper as bedding for new arrivals of exotic animals. They can’t burrow in to it, so it’s a great way for us to monitor them easily.

“We cannot accept any magazines or papers with staples in them as these could be harmful to the animals.

“Donating old newspapers will allow us to keep Warren, and all our small and exotic animals in a clean and hygienic environment while they wait to find their forever homes.”

Newspapers can be dropped at the reception at Scottish SPCA, Bothwell Rd, Hamilton ML3 0SB between 1pm and 4pm daily.
