We are appealing for information after two cats were found abandoned outside Taylor Vets in Rutherglen on 3 February.

We were alerted to the incident after the veterinary practice called our animal helpline after discovering the pair in a crate outside their reception when they arrived to open the premises.

Scottish SPCA inspector, Lesley Boyce, said: “The two adult cats, one male and one female, were found abandoned outside the vet in a small black crate with a pack of treats.

“What appears to be a hooded male has been recorded on CCTV leaving the cats at the practice at 03:30.

“Both cats are dark grey/black in colour and the male unfortunately has significant hair loss as a result of a flea infestation. He is also very slim in comparison to the larger female.

“Although the cats are chipped, the details are not registered so we have been unable to trace an owner.

“Leaving two animals outside in a crate in cold weather for a number of hours will cause them significant distress. It is absolutely not the right way to give up a pet if you can no longer care for them.

“We’re glad the pair are now safe at one of our animal rescue and rehoming centres where they will receive the care and attention they need.

“If anyone recognises these cats or has any information, we would ask that they contact our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
