We are appealing for information after a cat was found abandoned in a pet carrier outside our Lanarkshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre.

A member of staff found the black and white male cat at the centre’s gates on Tuesday 5 March.

Scottish SPCA Chief Inspector Sarah Gregory, said: “One of our staff members found this poor cat in a carrier next to our centre’s gates.

“He was found with a carrier bag of urinary dry food and urinary medication.

“The cat has been neutered but not microchipped. He has now been checked over by our vet and is estimated to be between 1 to 2 years old.

“Our centre is situated on a busy main road so leaving any animal in that location is extremely unsafe.

“Abandoning this cat outside in a carrier in cold weather for a number of hours will have caused significant distress. We appreciate that whoever left this cat may have intended for him to be found but this is not the correct way to give up a pet if you can no longer care for them.

“If anyone recognises this cat or has any information surrounding his circumstances, they should call our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
