We are appealing for information after a severely matted cat was discovered in the close of a property on Argyle Street on 20 February.

Scottish SPCA inspector, Elizabeth Lindsay, said, “The cat is a female tabby and white cat.

“The cat was not microchipped or wearing a caller when she was found.

“The animal was extremely matted and suffering from urine scald and respiratory issues.

“She was taken to our veterinary clinic where she was put to sleep on veterinary advice due to the extent of her issues and to prevent any further suffering.

“We appreciate that times are tough and veterinary and grooming costs can be expensive, but this cat will have suffered a great deal as a result of this neglect.

“If anyone recognises this cat, or has any information please call our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.
