We are appealing for information after two budgies were found in Cameron Crescent, Bonnyrigg.

A member of the public discovered the budgies in a cage on Thursday 2 November 2023 after they heard chirping coming from a bag beside a clothing bank.

Senior Inspector Jenny Scott said, “The budgies were found in a tiny cage covered with a plastic bag. They had been left beside a charity clothing bin in cold and rainy conditions with no food or water.

“Thankfully a member of the public found them mid-morning and took them to a nearby vet. However, sadly one of the budgies later died.

“We appreciate that whoever left the budgies may have intended for them to be found but this is not the correct way to give up a pet if you can no longer care for them.

The remaining budgie is now in the care of one of our animal rescue and rehoming centres.

“If anyone recognises these budgies, or has any information about their circumstances, they should call our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
