We are appealing to animal lovers to donate blankets for dogs and newspaper for small animals in the care of our Dunbartonshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre.

Blankets can be purchased from the centre’s Amazon wish list or via any other online retailer offering direct delivery to the centre. Items can also be dropped in to the centre reception daily between 1pm and 4pm.

New or used newspapers can be handed in to reception daily between 1pm and 4pm and must be bagged up.

Centre manager, Judy Button, said, “We are in need of blankets to keep our dogs cosy in their kennels.

“We are appealing for good sized, thick blankets. We can accept second hand blankets as long as they’re in good condition and laundered. We can also accept hand knitted or crocheted blankets but are unfortunately unable to accept donations of duvets.

“If an animal rips a duvet this can be a serious choking risk.

“We’re also running very low on our newspaper supply so we are hoping there are people nearby who can donate their old papers.

“Newspaper is a great material to use as a base for cages to catch the inevitable mishaps.

“We also use newspaper as bedding for new arrivals of exotic animals. They can’t burrow in to it, so is a great way for us to monitor them easily.

“We cannot accept any magazines or papers with staples in them as these could be harmful to the animals.

“Donating old newspapers will allow us to keep animals like Gizmo the ferret in a clean and hygienic environment while they wait to find their forever homes.

“If anyone can spare any old newspapers – our animals aren’t fussy between tabloid and broadsheet - then please drop them off to reception in a secured bag”

“We are so thankful for any donations you can spare so that we can continue to provide the best possible care for the animals at our centre.”

Blankets can be donated via the centre’s Amazon wish list here: https://amzn.to/3Hcefw3 or sent from another online retailer that can deliver. Blankets and newspaper can also be dropped in to the centre reception daily between 1pm and 4pm at Scottish SPCA, Dumbarton Road, Milton, G82 2UA.
