The dynamic duo were adopted by Emilee and Thomas at the end of June after the couple fell in love with them, describing the pair as having “flipped our lives upside down in the best possible way” this International Dog Day.
The couple had been discussing getting a dog for some time and one day, when passing their local Scottish SPCA rescue centre in Aberdeenshire, they decided to pop in and speak to the team. Two pointers, Meredith and Harriet, were the only dogs still waiting to find their forever home. Having gone in not even expecting to rescue one dog, they found themselves with two.
Emilee explained that they “couldn’t bear the thought of them being split up” so made the decision to adopt them both.
She said: “We both love dogs and when we first started considering getting a dog, we began looking at local rescues to see if there were any dogs who might be a good fit for us.
“They were the only two dogs at the Scottish SPCA’s Aberdeenshire centre still waiting to be rescued at the time – and we just felt that it was meant to be.
We made the right decision in rescuing them together
“They were so friendly from the moment we met them. We weren’t really sure what to expect, but as soon as we met them, we knew we had to take them home.
“We were already making plans in the car on the way home, knowing we wanted to rescue them as a pair and give them a loving home together – especially Harriet who is older, and we wanted to make sure she could enjoy her later years feeling safe and loved.
“We couldn’t bear the thought of them being split up, and after having them for a couple of months now, it’s safe to say these girls are absolutely joined at the hip. We know we made the right decision in rescuing them together.”
Emilee explained that upon picking the duo up on adoption day, they were friendly but subdued. Meredith did not know how to play and was not particularly interested in anything. Fast forward two months, and the three-year-old has completely come out of her shell.
“Meredith is now very much living out her puppy life,” Emilee said.
“She’s bouncy, excitable, loves her toys and food, and is honestly like a completely different dog. Harriet has always been incredibly friendly and enjoyed affection, but she absolutely loves her new bed and just wants to be wherever we are. She’s basically our shadow and follows us everywhere.

“They have completely flipped our lives upside down – but in the best possible way.
“They’ve taught us to be less selfish and to appreciate the simple things like playing with them in the garden, taking them on new walks and watching them experience things for the first time.
“They’re our favourite things to come home to and have brought so much joy into our lives. They are so unbelievably happy to see us always.
“Most of all, they’ve shown us just how much love and trust a rescue dog can give, despite whatever circumstances they may have come from. We feel incredibly lucky.
“Everyone we dealt with at the Scottish SPCA was so helpful, supportive and genuinely cared about finding the right home for Meredith and Harriet.
