Joan and Jet were discovered cold and frightened, and were swiftly taken to the Scottish SPCA’s Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre in Inverness.
The pair’s start in life was dark and bleak – as well as being found in a cardboard box, their mum also had sadly died. The team at the centre worked hard to care for them in the absence of their mother, providing them with treatment, warmth and sanctuary.
They were soon adopted into the family of another mum at the centre – before finding their loving forever home with Stewart MacDonald and his family.
Stewart and his two children live in a rural area near Inverness so were looking for a cat to complete their family – and along came the brother and sister duo.
Stewart picked them up on December 31 2025 – the ideal way to bring in a new year and chapter.
“They just looked perfect for us,” Stewart said. “It felt right. I think they’re both quite settled – they tend to roam around the garden and they absolutely love it!
Really happy with us
“The kids absolutely love them. They’re such little characters – they like to bury and hide under the quilt.
“They seem to be really happy with us.”
Stewart added that Joan and Jet provide him with company.
“I feel like I’ve been really lucky with them,” he continued. “They keep me company when the kids are with their mum so they’re great that way.
“Hopefully we’re just starting out on a journey and that I have them for at least 10-15 years.
“They’re just two little cheeky kittens and they’re brilliant.”
