Meet Isla, River and Nath – the dogs desperate for a second chance

These three loving pooches are looking for a new home after all being at the Scottish SPCA’s Lanarkshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre for over 300 days.

Isla, River and Nath have become long-term residents at the centre and are each searching for a second chance at happiness.

This National Rescue Dog Day, consider adopting or fostering a furry companion. By choosing to adopt and not shop, you are helping to support the work of the Scottish SPCA in its mission to make Scotland the best place in the world for an animal to call home. You are also helping to give a dog another chance at a better life.[CS1]

Every day is National Rescue Dog Day for us with 2,113 dogs arriving into our care in 2025 alone and 1,287 dogs being adopted.

Could Isla, River or Nath be the right dog for you? Here’s what they’re looking for.

Isla

Four-year-old Mastiff Isla has been at the Scottish SPCA’s Lanarkshire centre for 486 days. A friendly girl, Isla has become a team favourite at the centre. She is better suited to a home where she will be the only pet and where the attention will be on her. Her owner will also need to continue on with her training to ensure she continues to mature and become a well-mannered part of the family – especially when she is out and about. Isla will suit most family homes with older children and you can find out more about this lovely lady here: Find a rescue pet in need of adoption in Scotland

River

River has been at the centre for 312 days and is desperately seeking a fresh start in life. This three-year-old American Bulldog is full of love and affection and is looking for a calm adult-only home where she is the only pet. Out her kennel, she can become a bit worried but will soon begin to interact and show off her playful personality. River’s new owner will need to continue with her socialisation with other dogs as she can become quite vocal but she has made great progress. Could River be right for you? Nath

Crossbreed Nath has been at the centre for 350 days and is ready to find a home to call his own. Aged between two and three, this friendly boy is a good learner and loves to explore. Nath can be very excitable so is looking for a home with an owner that will continue with his training so he can be the best dog that he can be. He is looking for a home with teenagers and above and would like to be the only pet. Is Nath the right pooch for you?
