Appeal from Scottish SPCA after dog found dead in Edinburgh park

The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after a dog was found dead in a busy park in Edinburgh.

The black and white miniature bull terrier dog was discovered by a member of the public, partly buried in Edinburgh’s St Mark’s Park on Monday 23 February.

A Scottish SPCA Animal Rescue Officer attended the park after a call was made to the society’s Animal Helpline. The dog was wrapped in a blue fleece blanket and buried under a holly bush just off the path near the park’s football pitch.

The body had no signs of decomposition, suggesting the dog had not been buried there long. Evidence also suggests the dog had been neglected for a period of time prior to its death, as it was in an emaciated condition with its nails growing into its pads. The body was taken to the Scottish SPCA Animal Rescue & Rehoming Centre in Edinburgh.

The dog was microchipped, but the details were not up to date.
