Small Animal Care
Our Animal Care Assistants need your help to provide a caring and safe environment for the small animals in our centres.
Why we need you
We need you to help our dedicated Animal Care Assistants in providing a caring and safe environment for the small animals in our centre. This may include rabbits, rodents, ferrets, birds, reptiles, and any other small animals we are caring for. We will do our best to accommodate your preferences for working or not working with certain species, but the role will depend on what animals we have in our care at any given time.
What will you be doing?
- Help us to maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in our small animals’ accommodation
- Assist with grooming, exercising and providing enrichment activities for the small animals in our care, as directed by our staff
- Undertake all associated manual data recording
- Assist with any other general cleaning and maintenance duties
What skills do you need?
- Compassionate, patient and caring, with a strong interest in animal welfare
- Previous experience with small animals would be preferable
- You must be a good listener and able to follow instructions well
- You should be flexible in your approach, as there will be times when contact with the animals is minimal
- Ability to bend and lift as required in caring for the animals
What will you gain from being a volunteer?
- Volunteering for us is an incredibly rewarding experience and in return for your time and commitment, you will gain invaluable experience helping Scotland’s leading animal welfare charity. You will be part of our dedicated team of Animal Champions, caring for Scotland’s animals in need.

Puppies across Scotland need your help
Please consider giving a monthly donation today. Give Scotland’s animals the gift of safety this winter and beyond. The criminals involved in the low-welfare puppy trade never stop. And with your help, neither will we. Every £1 matters to puppies like Winnie.
