In the winter months, people can become concerned swans are frozen in ice on ponds or lochs.
It is very rarely the case that swans are actually frozen into the water due to a very complicated circulatory system. They will usually manage to break the ice with their very powerful chests if need be.
We will attend if the wing tips are touching the ice or other feathers appear to be stuck to the ice as there is a danger or ripping feathers if the swan tries to pull its wing of the top of the ice which can affect a swans ability to survive.
