Who they are
Edinburgh City FC is a semi-professional football team who play in the Scottish Professional Football League. Nicknamed the Citizens, the club was founded in its original form in 1928, just as we were hard at work preparing to open our first ever animal rescue centre in nearby Balerno.
How they help the Scottish SPCA
The club named us their official charity partner in January 2019 and the partnership is set to run until at least the end of the 2019/20 football season.
Both the club and our Society has a rich heritage in Scotland’s capital, so teaming up was a no-brainer.
Since the partnership launched, Edinburgh City FC has raised money towards their local animal rescue and rehoming centre to buy horse scales. These are used to weigh horses and monitor their health – something which is vital when we take-in so many horses who may have arrived underweight, in poor health or even mistreated.
The club achieved this through fundraising on match days at their home stadium. They also generously give us some advertising space in their match day programme, allowing us to share some of our work, events and activities with their loyal supporters.
