How to rehome a pet

Decide if rehoming is for you

Watch our video below which provides all the information you will need to help you decide if rehoming an animal is for you.

Have a read through our Rehoming FAQs.

Browse through some of our Success Stories.

Register your interest

Click on the profile of an animal you are interested in and complete an application form. By registering your interest for an animal it does not mean that you will be matched as our animals can receive more than 50 applications in any day, but it does give our rehoming team an indication of what you are looking for.

Leave your application with our expert rehoming team and someone will be in contact with you either by email or phone call within 10 working days to let you know if your application has been successful. If you are not successful for the animal you applied for, the team will work hard to find an animal that is the perfect match for you.

If you are unable to apply online, please pop into your nearest centre where our team will be happy to help you complete an application form.

Progressing your application

If you are successful, we will arrange to do a home-check with you via video call. We might also organise a meet and greet appointment with the animal at our centre. We will only do this for animals where we have determined there is a need to do so.

Report concerns FAQs

If you wish to report an injured or distressed animal, please call our animal helpline on the number shown above.

The Scottish SPCA is now using what3words. Download the app to get the unique three word code for your location and make it easier for our team to respond to your call.

As we are only rehoming via our website right now, please don't call us if that's what you are enquiring about, so our helpline team can assist those with animals in urgent need.
