Secondary school workshops

Did you know we’ve been educating young people on animal welfare for over a century? Our free ‘Prevention through Education’ programme continues to go from strength to strength. Our workshops with secondary school pupils constantly evolves, meaning teachers across the country welcome our education officers back regularly to work with the next generation of animal champions in Scotland.

It gets even better - the workshops are research-based, meaning we know the work we do with school children has a measurable impact. Ongoing research with the University of Edinburgh has shown our programme is increasing knowledge and positive attitudes towards animals, whilst decreasing tolerance of cruelty.

Animal Advocates for S1-S6 pupils

S1 – S6 pupils are given the opportunity to learn about how the Scottish SPCA investigates a real case. The classroom becomes a court room and using debating and teamwork skills the class must decide what the outcome of the case should be.

All secondary pupils can explore the roles of being vets, the Scottish SPCA inspector, the sheriff, the procurator fiscal or the defence lawyer. This cross-curricular workshop is fantastic for encouraging pupils to analyse real life scenarios and discuss potential career pathways.
