What is First Strike?
Our campaign to call on our partners such as vets, local authorities, the police and others to recognise and break the link between animal cruelty and human violence. Animal cruelty can be an indicator someone will go on to be violent towards humans - a.k.a. the First Strike. Part of our work to make life better for all animals in Scotland is to encourage people to be kind rather than cruel, and to focus on all the amazing benefits the human-animal bond brings.
People in emergency services, social workers, doctors, nurses, veterinary surgeons and others who see people and animals with health problems are in the best possible place to spot when a human or animal may be suffering from abuse.
What can you do to support First Strike?
Let everyone know you are following our campaign by sharing it on your social media channels using the #FirstStrike. Together, we can break the link between animal cruelty and human violence.
More importantly, if you or someone you know is suffering from abuse, do not suffer in silence. Contact us or an organisation which can help in confidence. If there is an animal involved, we will help you.
Our pioneering programme that helps nurture children’s empathy and compassion towards animals working with those who are showing behaviours towards animals that are a cause of concern. So far, it has helped over 120 children across Scotland.
