The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after a canary was abandoned at a bus stop in Ayr

We are appealing for information following the abandonment of a canary at a bus stop in Ayr.

canaryWe were alerted to the incident after a member of the public found the canary on 21 November.

Marion Hainey, manager of our animal rescue and rehoming centre in Ayr, said, “The canary was found in a cage inside a bag for life at a bus stop opposite the Pets At Home.

“He’s a bright yellow canary and we’ve nicknamed him Sunny.

 “If anyone recognises this bird, please contact us as we are keen to identify those responsible for abandoning Sunny."

Abandoning an animal is an offence under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006. Anyone found guilty of doing so can expect to be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.
