Rescue pets make great pets!
The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after two degus were abandoned inside a cage in East Kilbride.
We were alerted on 27 February when the pets were discovered on a grassy area near Hunter House Museum.
The degus are now in the care of our Lanarkshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre in Hamilton, where they have been named Chewy and Hans.
Centre manager Peter Fleming said, "Chewy and Hans were found inside a wire cage.
"While we understand people's circumstances can change, there is no excuse for abandoning animals. Whoever did this couldn't have been sure Chewy and Hans would receive the help they needed.
"We would ask anyone who knows who may have owned them to call us on 03000 999 999.
"Chewy and Hans will remain in our care until we can find them a suitable new home."
Abandoning and causing an animal unnecessary suffering animal is an offence under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006 and anyone found guilty of doing so can expect to be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.
