Appeal for information after two guinea pigs abandoned in Hamilton

We are appealing for information after two guinea pigs were found together in a box at Bent Park in Hamilton.

Guinea PigsWe were alerted after a member of the public discovered the pair of guinea pigs at the public park and contacted our animal helpline on 10 September.

Animal Rescue Officer Dawn-Vale Juma said, “The guinea pigs were found inside a plastic box on Monday afternoon by a member of the public whilst walking their dog in Bent Park.

“The male guinea pigs, now named Wotsit and Quaver, are in safe hands and being cared for by the team at our centre in Lanarkshire. They’ll stay in our care until we can find them a loving forever home.

“If anyone recognises the pair we’d urge them to contact us as we are keen to identify the person responsible for abandoning them.”

Abandoning an animal is an offence under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006. Anyone found guilty of doing so can expect to be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.

Anyone with information is being urged to contact the Scottish SPCA helpline on 03000 999 999.
