'Day in the life' of fundraisers Liz and Paul Soutar

Liz and Paul Soutar's 'day in the life' of a Scottish SPCA fundraising volunteer.

We are here at Pets at Home in Livingston to raise funds for the Scottish SPCA.

For the next four weeks or so, we’ll be managing a tombola stall as well as doing bucket collections with the help of the team here to try and raise as much money as we can.

We first came to the Scottish SPCA when one of our Guinea pigs died. As sociable animals, we wanted to get a companion for the pig we still had, and so we went to the Edinburgh Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre and took home a little pig that was in their care.

From then, we kept in touch with the team at the centre, becoming members before we were invited to become volunteers.

As the Society is so close to our hearts, it feels very natural to be fundraising for them.  It's become difficult to keep track of how long it's been exactly, but we are lifelong supporters.

Whether it’s helping with bucket collections outside Murraryfield or local supermarkets, at events or the centre open day, we help when we’re needed but we’re not going to abseil down the Forth Road Bridge or run a marathon, we’re too old for that!

We love meeting the people and the animals when representing the Society, today we met some gorgeous dogs including long-haired dachshunds, Toffee Rose and Anna and humans Julia and Stewart.

We’d encourage everyone to pay us a visit and have a go at the tombola, especially when it’s for such a fantastic cause.
