The Scottish SPCA is holding an event in Edinburgh which is backed by Downton Abbey’s Phyllis Logan

Scotland’s animal welfare charity is marking its 180th anniversary with the event to celebrate past and present supporters of the Society.

Phyllis Logan is a committed animal lover who is passionate about the charity’s work to prevent cruelty and support animals in need.

The Scottish actress has a long-standing relationship with the Scottish SPCA. She has previously been the face of a television advert urging the public to consider leaving a gift in their will for the charity.

Phyllis said, "I’m proud to have been able to give a voice to the injured, abused and abandoned animals who come in to the care of the Scottish SPCA.

“It’s a charity that has always held a very special place in my heart. They do such an amazing, wide range of work and care for a variety of animals. From dogs and cats to birds and wildlife.

“The Society’s inspectors and animal rescue officers respond to 90,000 incidents every year even though they receive no government funding.

“They also help bring those guilty of animal welfare crimes to justice.

“The charity needs £56,000 each day to continue the work they do. They rely solely on donations from members of the public.

“While filming the advert, I made friends with Oscar, the resident cat at the Glasgow Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre. He won a special place in my heart.

“Knowing that Oscar and all the animals in the care of the Scottish SPCA are so well taken care of puts my mind at ease about what will be in the future.”

The event is being held on 25 March from 11am – 2pm at the Norton House Hotel and Spa in Edinburgh, EH28 8LX. It will bring attendees up to date with current developments, provide a ‘behind the scenes’ insight in to the Scottish SPCA’s undercover work as well as future plans and ambitions.

If anyone is interested in attending the event, they should email trusts@scottishspca.org or phone 01383 843 589 by 12pm on 20 March 2020. Please note that tickets are issued on a first come first served basis.
