The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after a hamster was found abandoned in woodland near Westmill Road in Edinburgh.
Scotland’s animal welfare charity is caring for the rodent after a member of the public phoned its animal helpline on 23 March.
Scottish SPCA animal rescue officer Claire Hanlon said “The hamster was left in an empty Sky box with holes cut in the top of it.
“The box had food and bedding inside it.
“We have taken the hamster to one of our rescue and rehoming centres, where it will be cared for by our staff.
“We appreciate this is a very uncertain time just now but there is never an excuse for abandoning an animal.
“If anyone has any information about how the hamster came to be left this way, please contact our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
