Appeal for items for cats in Glasgow

Mike the cat

We are appealing for items for cats in the care of our Glasgow Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre.

The centre in Cardonald has cared for nearly 200 cats in 2021 so far and need scratching posts as well as non-biological washing powder. Items can be purchased from the centre’s Amazon wishlist or via any other online retailer offering direct delivery to the centre.

Centre assistant manager Katrina Cavanagh said, “Scratching posts ensure that the cats can keep their claws in good condition.

“The cattery can be quite a stressful environment for cats, especially when they first arrive, so providing them with enrichment like scratching posts can also help to stimulate them mentally and keep their mind active.

“Unfortunately at the moment due to coronavirus restrictions we’re only able to accept donations of new scratching posts and can’t accept any second hand.

“It may not seem like the most obvious item a rehoming centre would need but washing powder is actually vital to the everyday running of the centre.

“We do constant loads of washing on a daily basis and washing powder is essential to make sure animals like Mike have clean bedding to keep them comfy and cosy while they wait for their forever home.

“We currently have lots of feline friends in our care who are looking for a new home, like Mike. Mike is between one and two years old and arrived in to our care as a stray.

“He’s quite a timid boy but is getting braver day by day. He absolutely loves his grub and treats are most definitely the way to his heart!

“We’d be so grateful for any donations that people can spare and we know Mike, and the rest of the cats, will be too.”

Scratching posts and washing powder can be donated via the centre’s Amazon wishlist here: or sent from another online retailer that can deliver. Items can also be left in the donation bins outside the centre at 125 Kinnell Place, Glasgow G52 3RY.
