Your foster animal should be bright, alert, friendly and interactive. Do you have any concerns that this is not the case?

Your foster animal should be walking easily on its legs. Do they have difficulty moving around, limping, circling or stumbling?

Eyes

Your foster animal’s eyes should be open, bright and clear/shiny. Do their eyes look dull or partially closed and are there any crusts or discharges/wateriness or eyelashes rubbing on the eyeball?

Your foster animal’s nose should be clean with no discharge. Does their nose have any discharge, or sores?

Your foster animal’s ears should be clean. Are their ears dirty, red or hot to touch? Are there any wounds or swellings or are they excessively scratching their ears?

Does your foster animal have any of the following; a head tilt, wounds or hair loss, reddening, flaking or swellings on its head or face?

Mouth

Your foster animal should be able to open its mouth and eat with no drooling seen (there should be none at all if a cat and not excessively if a dog). Do they have any issues opening their mouth to eat, any drooling, blood in their saliva or a foul smell coming from their mouth?

Their gums should be salmon pink, unless pigmented. Is there any bleeding from their mouth or wobbly or broken teeth?

Does your foster animal have any of the following on their skin? Wounds, scabs or crusting or hair loss, parasites, lumps or has been excessively itchy?

Breathing should be easy and without effort and the abdomen and elbows should not move when breathing normally. Is your foster animal wheezing, sneezing, coughing or snorting when exhaling?
