The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after a three month old kitten was found at a lay-by in Leven, believed to have been dumped in a plastic bag. We were called to rescue the ginger and white male cat after he was spotted sitting next to the lay-by on the B927 about a mile out of Leven on Tuesday morning (26 June) at around 11am. Several ripped plastic bags lay next to the kitten and we believe that he may have escaped from one of the bags and remained at the spot until he was rescued. The kitten, who has been named Dougal, is now being cared for at our Angus, Tayside and Fife Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre at Petterden, Dundee. Senior Inspector Steven Gray said, "We are rescuing a worryingly high number of cats and kittens that have been abandoned at the moment and it would seem that Dougal is the latest victim. "He’s an incredibly friendly wee cat so he must have been well handled and used to human company before he found himself alone by the roadside. "We can’t say for sure that he was dumped in a bag, but it is a possibility as there were torn bags close by. He’s lucky he wasn’t hit by a car and killed. If someone has left him there than that was a very cruel and heartless thing to do." Anyone with information about Dougal is being urged to contact our Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
