Ponies' plea for good homes

Danny and Lucky with Centre Manager Graeme Innes

The Scottish SPCA is seeking good owners for two ponies who have been waiting to find new homes at the charity’s Aberdeen Centre since it opened last year.

We rescued chestnut gelding Danny and bay mare Lucky after their previous owner was unable to provide them with the care they required.

They’ve spent more than six months being looked after by staff at our Drumoak-based centre, but sadly very few people have expressed any interest in rehoming them.

Centre Manager Graeme Innes said, “When they first arrived with us Danny and Lucky were both in poor condition but they have made an excellent recovery and are now looking fantastic.

“At around seven years old they are still young and active and would benefit from further schooling. We think they’ve got great potential and with time and commitment they could both make ridden ponies, though they’d be equally happy as field companions.

“Lucky is a stunning bay mare with a very sweet nature. She’s very good with the vet and the farrier and she’d be happy to live outside as long as she had good field shelter.

“Danny is a cracking wee pony who is generally good to handle and with an experienced owner he’ll come on leaps and bounds.

“It’s a shame they’ve been here such a long time as we’d love to see them both in permanent homes getting the attention they deserve.

“Owning a horse or pony is a big commitment in terms of both time and money, but it can also be extremely rewarding because they give so much back to you.

“Danny and Lucky have had a tough past, we just hope there are some pony lovers out there who can offer them a much brighter future.”

Anyone interested in offering Danny or Lucky a home can call our animal helpline on 03000 999 999.
