The Scottish SPCA is seeking the owner of a lucky lovebird who was found close to death on a Dumfries street.
A concerned passer by spotted the bird on the ground in the town centre close to the Mid Steeple. She scooped up the exhausted pet and walked into the nearest shop to find a box to put him in before calling us for help on Thursday evening (26 January).
Inspector Janet Proudlock took the lovebird into her care and nursed him back to health. He has been named Greg after the Greggs cake box he was put in by his rescuer.
Inspector Proudlock said, "Poor Greg looked unlikely to survive the night and was unable to perch but I fed him some warm sugar water and kept him warm overnight with a hot water bottle and by morning he had made a great recovery.
"He is a cheerful little bird although he is quite skittish so he may not have had much handling.
"However, many people keep lovebirds in pairs so we're very keen to return him to his owner, particularly if he has a mate who is pining for him.
"If no one comes forward to claim him we'll be looking to find him a loving new home."
Anyone who recognises Greg is being asked to call our Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
