A Dumfries woman has been banned from keeping animals for five years after she abandoned her 12 week old kitten in her flat for at least three days without food or water.
Maxine Service, 21, was convicted at Dumfries Sheriff Court on Friday (13 January) following a Scottish SPCA investigation. She was also fined £160.
Concerned neighbours contacted us for help when they spotted the distressed three month old black female kitten called Lucky pawing at the windows.
Inspector Arianne Harkness said, "We welcome the five year ban which is fitting given that the accused did not appear to acknowledge or understand that it was unacceptable to leave an animal unattended for such a long period of time without any food or water.
"There was actually a plastic bag full of tins of cat food in the room with Lucky, but none left out for her to eat.
"We hope Ms Service uses the time to reflect on her actions and we would strongly advise her think very carefully about whether she is capable of taking on another pet once her ban has expired."
Lucky was taken into our care and has since been found a loving home.
