Dog abandoned in Edinburgh stairwell

Zoe

The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after a young dog was found abandoned in an Edinburgh stairwell.

A Leith Walk resident spotted the female Staffordshire bull terrier tied to the stair in the block of flats on December 30 and called us for help.

The pup was taken to our Edinburgh and Lothians Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre, where she has been named Zoe.

Senior Inspector John Toule said, "Poor Zoe was left tied up inside the stairwell and it's likely someone has purposefully abandoned her there.

"We've spoken to most of the people living in the block and no one seems to know who her owner was.

"The door to the flats is not secure so it would have been very easy for someone to get inside and dump Zoe.

"She is a young dog, no older than one year and in good bodily condition.

"Although she was left somewhere where she would be found relatively quickly, she didn't have any food or water and the person who tied her up couldn't have been sure that whoever found her would help her.

"Abandoning an animal under any circumstances is an offence and we are very keen to trace Zoe's owner."

Anyone with information relating to this abandonment is being urged to contact our Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
