The Scottish SPCA is seeking the owner of an exotic bird that was found in a Kirkcaldy graveyard on New Year's Day.
A member of the public spotted the pale headed rosella parakeet at the cemetery on Pentland Place at around midday. He managed to coax the bewildered bird down from its perch before calling us for help.
The parakeet, who has been named Rainbow, is now being cared for at our Edinburgh and Lothians Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre at Balerno.
Animal Rescue Officer Kieran Smart said, "A brightly coloured parakeet isn't the kind of bird you'd expect to find in a graveyard.
"Thankfully the gentleman who rescued Rainbow is a bird owner himself and he and his family were able to catch him without too much trouble.
"Rainbow is a striking yellow, blue and grey parakeet with a red tip on his tail. We don't often see birds with this particular colouration so if he does have an owner they should recognise him straight away.
"He is in quite good condition so we don't think he was outdoors for long. He also seems fairly handleable so there's a good chance someone is missing him.
"Hopefully we'll reunite him with his owner, but if no-one comes forward to claim him then we'll look after him until he gets a good home."
Anyone who recognises Rainbow can call our Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
