Parakeet found in Annan

Parakeet

The Scottish SPCA has appealed for information after a parakeet was found flying around a neighbourhood in Annan, Dumfries and Galloway.

A member of public called Scotland's animal welfare charity having discovered the bird in the Newington Road area of the town.

Scottish SPCA Inspector Janet Proudlock said, "When I arrived the gentleman who had called us had taken the parrot inside and it was sitting quite happily in his living room.

"It's quite a tame bird so we're certain it's someone's pet. If it hadn't been found it probably wouldn't have survived given the weather and its lack of wild instinct.

"Even though parrots can cover quite a distance, it's likely this bird will have tried to find shelter nearby and will belong to someone living locally.

"If its owner doesn't come forward we will find it a new home."
