Cross-border Christmas shopping cat appeal

Brea web

The Scottish SPCA has appealed for information after cross-border Christmas shoppers returned to Scotland with a cat.

Having travelled south, two Kingholm Quay residents found the cat in an ASDA car park in Carlisle, mistakenly thought she was injured and brought her home to the village near Dumfries.

The cat is now being cared for at our Lanarkshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre, where she has been named Brea.

Scottish SPCA Inspector Janet Proudlock said, "The ladies are very well meaning and thought Brea was injured.

"Brea does have a tooth missing though our veterinary checks have shown it was removed surgically. This suggests Brea may have an owner who has been looking after her well.

"Brea is around seven or eight years old, is in good condition and has a lovely nature. She may simply have been walking in her neighbourhood, though she may also have recently strayed or even been abandoned.

"Unfortunately, Brea isn't microchipped and didn't have a collar or tag so we are appealing for information in case she has an owner in England who is missing her."

Anyone with information should contact the Scottish SPCA's Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
