The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after ten guinea pigs were dumped outside a house in Glasgow.
A resident of Dunbarton Road, Scotstoun, found the frightened creatures in a plastic cage at her back door on Friday morning (23 December).
They were taken to our Lanarkshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre and the male and nine females are now receiving the care and attention they need.
Our centre's Gillian Boyle said, "This was a very heartless act as all ten guinea pigs were left in a small cage with no water and just a small amount of food.
"We also think that two are pregnant, which makes this abandonment even more cruel.
"A lot of condensation had formed in the cage as a result of them being cramped in such a small space and the guinea pigs were soaking wet, suggesting they had been left outside overnight.![]()
"The lady who found them is a vet and it's likely whoever dumped them was aware of this and knew she would do the right thing.
"However, there is no excuse to abandon any animal and we really need to find the person responsible."
Anyone with information relating to this abandonment is asked to contact our Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
