The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after three helpless kittens were dumped in a sack in Airdrie.
A shop owner spotted the cats outside his premises on Bowhill Road in Chapelhall on Thursday morning (15 December) and took them to our Lanarkshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre.
The kittens, who have been named Almond, Eggnog and Moet, are around six to eight weeks old.
Centre Assistant Manager Lorraine Alba said, "These tiny babies were left outside in the cold in just a sack without any food or water.
"Thankfully, the gentleman who found them did the right thing by bringing them to our centre but the person who abandoned them couldn't have been sure of this.
"The kittens were terrified when they first arrived but are in good health and are receiving all the care and attention they need.
"Whoever dumped them has been extremely cruel and we're very keen to trace the owner.
"If anyone has any information we'd urge them to call our animal helpline as soon as possible."
Abandoning an animal is an offence that carries stiff penalties including up to six months in prison and a £5,000 fine. Anyone found guilty of doing so can also expect to be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.
Anyone with information relating to this abandonment is asked to contact our Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
