Dumped dog tied to door

Pugsy

The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after a dog was left tied to a door at a house in Bilston on the outskirts of Edinburgh.

We were contacted by a resident of Seafield Road, Bilston, after she returned to her property to find a small male tan and white crossbreed dog tied to her front door at around 2.45pm on Tuesday (6 December). Two packets of dog food had been posted through the letter box.

The dog is now being cared for at our Edinburgh and Lothians Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre at Balerno, where he has been named Pugsy.

Senior Inspector John Toule said, "The dog, who appears to be a pug cross corgi, was found wearing a gold collar with silver bones studded on to it and was tied up using a blue extending lead.

"He is in good overall condition and has clearly been someone's pet up until very recently.

"Whoever left Pugsy may have assumed that this lady would simply take on the responsibility of caring for him.

"However, abandoning an animal in any circumstance is unacceptable and we are keen to trace the owner.

"The lady has advised us that she saw a silver coloured car drive away as she approached her house. This may or may not have been related to the incident, but we would be interested in speaking to the driver of this car."

Abandoning an animal is an offence and anyone found guilty of doing so can expect to be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.

Anyone with information relating to this abandonment of Pugsy is being urged to contact our Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
