The Scottish SPCA is calling on animal lovers in Aberdeenshire to help abandoned and neglected horses by donating rugs, tack and feed.
Our Drumoak-based animal rescue and rehoming centre is currently caring for a number of horses and ponies, including Danny and Lucky who were the first horses to arrive at the new facility after they were rescued from the local area on welfare grounds. Both Danny and Lucky are now fully recovered and ready to find themselves loving new owners.
We are urging people to hand in equipment and supplies such as rugs and turnout rugs, pitch forks, head collars and lead ropes, grooming equipment, feed, hay and straw.
Centre Manager Graeme Innes said, "As any horse owner will know, horses and ponies are expensive creatures to care for and it takes hard work to ensure they are kept in the best condition.
"The animals that come into our care often require extra special attention because they have been neglected or ill treated so we try to make their stay here as comfortable and pleasant as possible.
"Our staff are constantly kept busy mucking out, grooming and handling the horses so we're always in need of all types of horse and pony equipment in good condition and we've got plenty of hungry mouths to feed so donations of horse and pony nuts, build up nuts, alpha A and Happy Hoof are all gratefully received."
Donations of horse and pony supplies can be handed in to our Aberdeenshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre at Drumoak, Banchory, between 10am and 4pm seven days a week.
Anyone interested in rehoming Danny or Lucky can call the Scottish SPCA Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
